Non-Attorney vs. Attorney
Why hire me, Susan Vatcher, owner of
independence for ME, instead of an attorney?

Representing someone before the Social Security Administration is not dependent on the skills of an attorney. Rather, what is of utmost importance is whether or not the person representing you knows the system, the rules and regulations (which are always changing), and knows you and your individual circumstances inside and out.

As a non-attorney representative, I was required by the SSA to pass a very intensive and thorough exam in order to qualify for fee withholding and access to the same online services that attorneys automatically have available to them. My success in passing that exam in May 2016 demonstrates my complete knowledge of Social Security Disability Law. This certification by the SSA provides you with peace of mind that I am an expert in this field and can represent you at every step in the process!

I have as much knowledge and experience as many of the attorneys that represent claimants before the SSA in the State of Maine. My experience and skills are well-known to and respected by many attorneys in this state.  I attend conferences on a yearly basis that concentrate on Social Security Disability rules and regulations so that I stay up to date on any recent changes.  I am also a member of two Social Security organizations, NOSSCR and NADR, in order to continually stay current with all of Social Security’s rules and regulations.

I live in Lewiston, Maine, not half way across the country as do many of the attorneys offering services on the internet. I charge a fee only if I win your claim. I will provide you with excellent personal service; your claim will not be routed to case managers or other staff because I handle all aspects of your claim.  I want to meet you and develop your claim not based on a phone call but after seeing you and discussing all of your medical conditions and how those conditions keep you from being able to hold down a full-time job.  My work doesn't end when the favorable decision is issued.  I represent you until I am satisfied that you have been paid every penny you are entitled to.
